THE FEST 24 Gainesville x American Socks

We Went to THE FEST 24 in Gainesville: Punk, Pits and Socks

This past weekend we packed the van and headed to THE FEST 24 in Gainesville, Florida, October 23 to 25. Three days of punk rock, more than 300 bands, giveaways at our booth and a whole downtown taken over by our people. Here's everything that happened.

What is THE FEST?

THE FEST is one of the most loved DIY punk festivals in the US. It was founded in Gainesville in 2002 by Tony Weinbender, and the first edition took place in May of that year. From the second edition in 2003 it moved to October, and since then it lands every fall, right around Halloween.

What makes THE FEST different is the format. There is no giant field or main stage: the bands play across the bars, clubs, halls and outdoor stages of downtown Gainesville, so the whole weekend you walk from venue to venue, catching old favorites and discovering new bands on the way. Punk, hardcore, emo, ska, pop punk and everything in between share the same streets.

FEST 24 in numbers

  • Dates: October 23 to 25, 2026, with a kickoff show on October 22 at Bo Diddley Plaza.
  • More than 300 bands across downtown Gainesville, including more than 40 local Gainesville bands.
  • Headliners: The Bouncing Souls and PUP, both playing two sets, and Lagwagon. PUP played their 2016 album The Dream Is Over.
  • Special sets: Nerf Herder played their self titled album and Small Brown Bike played Dead Reckoning.
  • Room for new bands: the organizers received more than 3,000 band submissions, and this year had more first time FEST performers than ever.

Why we love festivals

Festivals are where American Socks makes the most sense. Online you see orders; at a festival you see faces. We get to meet the people who wear our socks, hear what designs they love, see how they style them and share the same music and the same pit. That connection with the crowd is the reason we keep loading the van, show after show.

From our Orlando warehouse to Gainesville

We loaded the van at our warehouse in Orlando, filled it with boxes of socks and drove north to Gainesville. Once there, we set up our booth, stacked the walls with our best designs and got ready for three days of shows.

Giveaways at the booth

We couldn't show up empty handed. During the weekend we ran giveaways at our booth, and seeing people walk away with free socks and a big smile was one of the best parts of the trip. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to play.

“Do you have a special collab?”

That was the question of the weekend. A lot of you asked if we had a FEST collaboration this year. Not this time, but we hear you, and we loved that you asked.

Meeting the people behind the pit

The best part of being at THE FEST is getting close to our culture. We met so many people who have been following American Socks for years, and getting to talk face to face, swap stories and see you rocking our socks means everything to us.

Florida's favorite: See You Later Alligator

If one design ruled Florida this weekend, it was See You Later, our Mid High with the alligator in shades that says it all: “See you later, alligator.” In Gainesville, home of the Gators, it was the pair everybody wanted to take home.

See you in the pit

Of course we didn't just stay at the booth. We went to the pit, caught a lot of shows and sold the best socks for any mosh or festival.

If you missed us, grab a pair of See You Later or Moshpit, check our skull socks or find your next pair in our Mid High socks, or go taller with our Knee High socks.

Thanks Gainesville, and thanks @thefestfl for having us. Follow us at @americansocks to find out where we're heading next. See you next year.
